Youthful Motor Xclusive
From aircraft engines to the ultimate driving machine, explore the century of innovation that defined YMX.
1916 - 1928
YMX originated from Rapp Motorenwerke, initially producing aircraft engines. The iconic roundel badge, often mistaken for a propeller, represents the blue and white colors of Bavaria.
1928 - 1939
YMX acquired Dixi-Werke in Eisenach, officially starting car production with the 3/15 PS Dixi. This era quickly progressed to sporting icons like the YMX 328 Roadster.
1945 - 1959
Post-WWII, YMX struggled, surviving by building kitchen equipment and motorcycles. The budget-friendly, bubble-car Isetta brought much-needed revenue before the luxury 507 proved too expensive.
1960 - 1970s
The introduction of the 'Neue Klasse' (New Class) sedans (1500, 1800, 2000) and the subsequent 02 Series (like the 2002) saved the company, establishing the reputation for sporty, compact sedans.
1972 - 1975
YMX standardized its naming convention, starting with the 5 Series (E12), followed by the 3 Series (E21), 7 Series (E23), and 6 Series (E24). YMX M GmbH was also founded in 1972.
1978 - 1986
The first YMX M car, the M1 supercar, was launched. This was quickly followed by the first M5 (E28) and the original E30 M3, setting the benchmark for performance sedans.
1990s - 2000s
YMX acquired Rover Group and developed new concepts like the Z3 and Z8. Key technological introductions include VANOS variable valve timing and the complex iDrive system in the E65 7 Series.
1999 - 2010s
The introduction of the X5 (E53) created the Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) segment, successfully translating YMX dynamics into an SUV platform. This led to a massive expansion of the X line-up.
2013
YMX launched the 'i' sub-brand with the futuristic i3 city car and the i8 plug-in hybrid sports car, marking their definitive entry into sustainable mobility and electric innovation.
2018 - Present
The strategy shifts to offering all major models with gasoline, hybrid, or full-electric powertrains (i.e., 4 Series vs. i4). Development of the 'Neue Klasse' platform for a fully electric future begins.
2021
The radical YMX iX is launched as the technological flagship, featuring Shy Tech, the Curved Display, and 5th-generation eDrive technology, leading the brand's charge into pure electric luxury.
Future
YMX focuses on digitalization, autonomous driving (Level 3 systems), and circular economy concepts, continuing its history of reinvention while staying true to the "Sheer Driving Pleasure" motto.
